WHY CIRCLES

WHY CIRCLE?
I used tondo canvases.
Circle is a very ancient and universal symbol that can have different meanings depending on the context and culture:
  • The cyclical nature of the universe and life, such as the seasons, the day and night, the birth and death, etc.
  • The protection, inclusion, and wholeness of the self and the divine, as the circle has no gaps or edges, and encompasses everything within it.
  • The focus and transformation of energy or matter, as the circle is a shape that can concentrate or radiate force in all directions.
  • The eternity, infinity, and perfection of the circle, as it has no beginning and no end, and is symmetrical and balanced.

MY INSPIRATION:

Marc Chagall (1887-1985), the ceiling of the Paris Opera, 1964

Why Daily Sketching Matters – Even Just a Little
I developed a habit of sketching every day, even just a few minutes, makes a big difference. It keeps your creative muscles active, and training your eyes to really see.

Let’s be real: not every day is a “masterpiece” kind of day. Sometimes you’re inspired, other times you can barely find your pencil under a pile of snacks. But here’s the thing—daily sketching matters.

Plus, sketchbooks don’t judge. They welcome your weird ideas, your wobbly lines, your “abstract” doodles that might actually just be breakfast. And over time? Those five-minute scribbles become the foundation of serious progress—and some seriously entertaining pages.
So go ahead. Draw something. Anything. Even a badly drawn banana has artistic value (probably). The point is, you’re doing it. And that’s awesome.
So don’t wait for the perfect moment or a big idea. Just open your sketchbook and draw something—anything. The magic is in showing up.

Zorn Palette

Trying limited colour palette. Mixing Zorn colours.
The Zorn limited palette is named after renowned Swedish artist Anders Leonard Zorn (February 18, 1860 – August 22, 1920). Best known for his portraits, domestic scenes and nudes in outdoor settings. He, like John Singer Sargent and Joaquín Sorolla, greatly admired by many realist artists today for his lively and skillful brushwork. Zorn is also known for using a palette limited to just four colors. It consists of just four colours being yellow ochre, ivory black, vermillion and titanium white. Cadmium red light is commonly used in place of vermilion by modern day artists.
My swatch on canvas panel and my palette on the right:
Yellow Ochre (Old Holland)

Cadmium Red light (Old Holland)
Bluish Black (Winsor& Newton professional line)
Titanium White (Winsor& Newton)
